Leland A. Babitch, M.D., MBA
President and CEO

Dr. Leland Babitch is MPRO's president and CEO with more than 20 years of healthcare experience. He has a diverse background in healthcare that includes a broad range of leadership positions encompassing clinical expertise, health information technology and healthcare quality improvement. Dr. Babitch also has extensive experience in strategic planning, analytics, critical decision making and organizational development and governance.

Prior to joining MPRO, Dr. Babitch served as an Executive Medical Director at Clinovations, a subsidiary of The Advisory Board Company, where he worked on several, large-scale Cerner implementations. He has also served as a subject matter expert on projects ranging from revenue cycle/documentation/coding improvement to charitable work around pediatric food insecurity. Prior to that, Dr. Babitch served as a Senior Vice President and the Chief Medical Information Officer for the Detroit Medical Center, an eight-hospital system in the Detroit area. He was responsible for EHR operations, training, and development for more than 2,500 staff physicians and 800+ residents and fellows. As a member of the DMC senior management team and clinical transformation enterprise, Dr. Babitch was able to achieve HIMSS Stage 6 recognition, Meaningful Use Stage 1, and Leapfrog CPOE recognition for all of his eligible sites. Additionally, he was a primary author on the successful bid for a Beacon Grant from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology worth $16.2 million.

In addition to his leadership as CMIO, Dr. Babitch has experience as a medical director with United Healthcare, where he oversaw pediatric and adult utilization for its Michigan, Ohio and Nebraska plans. Prior to his role as CMIO at the Detroit Medical Center, he served as the chief compliance officer for his 150-member pediatric group, as well as the medical director for Ambulatory and Information Systems at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Prior to his career in academic medicine and hospital administration, Dr. Babitch was a successful, private pediatrician in the St. Louis area, and the leader of his group’s IT committee. He continues to practice pediatrics at the DMC, and to teach pediatrics and medical administration within the Department of Pediatrics at Wayne State University, where he is an assistant professor.

Dr. Babitch received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University. He has an MBA from Michigan State University, and completed his B.A. in Genetics and Developmental Biology at Northwestern University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Medical Practice Executive, and is board certified in both pediatrics and medical informatics.
