MPRO Governor's Award of Excellence

Nursing Homes

These awards will be given to nursing homes for improving quality of care and quality of life for nursing home residents.

Improving Nursing Home Care: Healthcare-Acquired Conditions

MPRO nursing home staff at the 2007 Governor's Award of Excellence

Achievement Criteria

 

  • Must be a star-rated long-term care facility and participant in the National Nursing Home Quality Care Collaborative (submit a signed participation agreement to MPRO)

  • Submit all required Governor’s Award of Excellence documentation

  • Achieve evaluation performance standard of ≤6.0 for the clinical quality measurement composite score for at least one quarter during 7/1/17 to 9/30/18

  • Achieve the evaluation performance standard of 15 percent relative improvement from baseline (1/1/13-12/31/13) for antipsychotic medication use

  • Please note: State of Michigan criteria - facilities receiving an immediate jeopardy or substandard quality of care deficiencies from 08/17-12/18 will not be eligible for the award

  • Have achieved evaluation performance standard of ≤6.0 for the clinical quality measurement composite score for at least one quarter

  • Achieve the evaluation performance standard of 15 percent relative improvement from baseline (1/1/13-12/31/13) for antipsychotic medication use

  • Submit final Governor’s Award of Excellence report (narrative) for reduction in antipsychotic medication use among dementia residents

  • Submit final Governor’s Award of Excellence narrative for measure of your choice that will affect resident quality of care and quality of life

Improving Nursing Home Care: Clostridium Difficile
  • Must be a star-rated long-term care facility and participant in the national C.difficile reporting initiative with MPRO

  • Must have enrolled in the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and conferred rights to MPRO and the National Coordinating Center (NCC) by 10/31/17

Achievement Criteria

 

  • Submit all required Governor’s Award of Excellence documentation

  • Complete timely* and consecutive+ monthly reporting of CDI data into NHSN (includes: events, if any; required monthly reporting plan; and required monthly summary data [must be submitted monthly even with zero CDI events])

    • *Submit data by the 15th of the following month. For example, August 2018 data is due by Sept. 15, 2018. If this is not possible for your facility, please contact gshields@mpro.org to coordinate an alternate deadline

    • +Submit data every month from March 2017 through December 2018

      • Note: Data for months prior to Governor's Award of Excellence registration can be put in retroactively

  • Demonstrate implementation of at least four Core Elements of Antibiotic Stewardship for Nursing Homes in the facility by 12/15/18

  • Please note: State of Michigan criteria - facilities receiving an immediate jeopardy or substandard quality of care deficiencies from 08/17-12/18 will not be eligible for the award
