Looking Forward

In addition to all of the achievements and positive momentum in 2018, MPRO also laid the groundwork for ongoing success in the future. Here are some of the reasons we are excited about the future:

Superior Health Quality Alliance

In 2018, MPRO, along with seven other leading healthcare quality institutions including the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, MetaStar, Michigan Health and Hospital Association, Midwest Kidney Network, Minnesota Hospital Association, Stratis Health, and Wisconsin Hospital Association formed Superior Health Quality Alliance. The purpose of Superior Health is to create a strategic,cross-continuum partnership to secure status as a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) National Quality Improvement and Innovation Contractor, and pursue subsequent quality improvement contracts scheduled to launch in July 2019.

In January 2019, Superior Health was selected as one of 58 NQIIC organizations, and we all look forward to extending our longstanding history in healthcare quality improvement for CMS and Medicare beneficiaries.

Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Opioid Grant

Working with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, MPRO secured funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for a two-year pilot project focused on opioid prescribing habits in the state. MPRO will work in conjunction with partners at Michigan Medicaid, Columbia Healthcare Analytics and Project ECHO to review provider prescribing patterns for patients on high-dose narcotics. MPRO and ECHO will counsel and train those providers in proper drug tapering protocols and pain management strategies.

Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Partnership

MPRO is working with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to provide final review and recommendations for healthcare providers who are at risk of losing their licenses. MPRO will provide peer-review for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, clinical psychologists and other care providers using our extensive network of experts.
