Biography
Joe Schwarz, MD, currently resides and practices medicine in Battle Creek, Michigan. Dr. Schwarz is a retired member of the U.S. Congress where he served in the House of Representatives.
His public service career also includes service to the state Senate and he previously served as Mayor of Battle Creek. Since leaving Congress, he has served on numerous health advisory panels at both the state and federal levels. He was appointed by the Governor of Michigan to serve on the Governor’s Emergency Financial Advisory Panel and the Independent Review Group appointed by the Secretary of Defense to investigate conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Schwarz currently serves on several Advisory Committees at the University of Michigan and is a lecturer in the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and is a graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in otolaryngology at Harvard. He has practiced medicine for more than 30 years.
