FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2007 Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting Nominations Are Now Available
Farmington Hills, MI (March 8, 2007) – MPRO, Michigan’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, in conjunction with Governor Granholm’s office is pleased to announce that self-nominations have started for the annual Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting.
The Governor’s Award of Excellence is an annual awards program, created through a collaborative effort between MPRO and Governor Granholm’s Office. This prestigious award provides primary care physician offices statewide an opportunity to be recognized for their work in the area of quality improvement and patient safety.
The criteria aligns with the Physician Office Quality Improvement Program including the Doctor’s Office Quality-Information Technology (DOQ-IT). The clinical topics addressed by the Governor’s Award have been designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Each office may select one of the following clinical areas of focus: preventive care, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, or cancer screening. New criteria for 2007 includes education, assessment and evaluation of e-prescribing.
Six years ago, MPRO launched, in cooperation with the Governor’s office, the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting. The Governor’s Award is an annual award that recognizes primary care physician offices throughout Michigan for their work to improve the quality and safety of care provided for their adult patients. Participation in the Governor’s Award program is voluntary and offices must self-nominate to be part of this award program. The award is non-competitive and every office that clearly demonstrates that they have met the criteria will receive the award.
The award program has been enthusiastically supported by physicians and clinicians throughout the state, as well as by a variety of Michigan organizations and professional associations. Each year, the program continues to evolve and grow in prominence. Since 2001, over 700 GAE awards have been presented to physician offices for their commitment to quality health care.
