Influenza Immunizations
Influenza is a serious disease of the nose, throat, and lungs, and it can lead to pneumonia. Each year about 200,000 people in the U.S. are hospitalized and about 36,000 people die because of the flu. Most who die are 65 years and older.
Flu shots – are a covered benefit under Medicare Part B. Medicare offers this preventive service once a flu season in the fall or winter. It is recommended that adults receive a flu shot for the current virus each year. There is no cost to the beneficiary.
MPRO encourages physicians’ offices to remind patients to get their yearly flu immunization.
