Overview
MPRO’s primary goal with Beneficiary and Family Centered Care (BFCC) is to protect Medicare Consumers or beneficiaries and work with providers to promote health care that is both respectful and responsive to beneficiaries and also considers their preferences, needs and values. MPRO achieves this by conducting a number of Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) reviews including:
- Quality of care reviews based on beneficiary complaints;
- Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Requests for Review (appeals) and certain provider notices;
- Potential Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) or anti dumping cases etc.; and
- Medical Review
Information obtained in medical case review helps MPRO to identify areas that may improve care, services and communication to Medicare beneficiaries. Working together we can ultimately help providers by:
- Addressing a variety of beneficiary concerns of which the provider may not be aware;
- Discovering and analyzing quality improvement needs;
- Helping providers identify system-wide inefficiencies that impact quality of care;
- Promoting an awareness of the views Medicare beneficiaries have on the quality of care and overall treatment provided
Reviews also promote high-quality health care and improve quality of care by:
- Ensuring Medicare beneficiaries and other involved members of the public are afforded a helpful and fair process; and
- Creating greater transparency with Medicare beneficiaries to empower them to make informed choices about their health.
